This was not our first experience involving a real estate transaction, but it was certainly our most important, & we could not have hoped for a better representative than Rock Brown. My wife agrees. We were very discriminating as to the type of home and location required, & we had been searching for three years. My wife had previously had difficulty finding an agent she could work with - one who was willing to patiently communicate with her and who could understand what she was saying despite her foreign accent. Most didn’t seem to want to take the time to listen to her needs. As soon as she met Rock, she knew he was a different kind of agent. She realized she was dealing with someone with patience who would listen to her and respond, taking positive action.

When he discovered my wife really liked a certain neighborhood, Rock wrote letters to all the homeowners asking if they might be in the market for a buyer. He actually got a response from his letter, and we went to see the home, but unfortunately, we didn’t like the view it afforded. We faced a number of limitations that made our task difficult. Rock, however, listened to our requirements, and took us seriously. Moreover, he toured us around Reston & marketed a vision that we had not considered nor knew existed - a beautiful lakeside home that met our needs and added the charm of a superior and unmatched location. We had finally found a home we could really enjoy.

With Rock’s guidance, we deposited earnest money on a newly constructed lakeside spec home - the last one left in our price range. We were pleased that Rock took the initiative to negotiate on extras for our home purchase - things we never would have thought of, and that the builder never would have told us.

We had a home to sell in the Clifton area and the purchase of our new home hinged on the sale of our old one within one month’s time. We needed to quickly prepare our existing home for the market by the start of the week or we risked losing our dream house. Rock assured us that it could be done in four days. We didn’t know where to begin, but with his continual help, we were able to get all the work done in time. He even put our two boys to work doing projects they could handle to help save us time. It was nice working together as a team with Rock. He worked with a calm, yet relentless sense of urgency, supplying us the numbers of some good contractors for the tasks he didn’t do himself. His time in the Marines obviously served him well. He had a fiery determination that was cool under pressure. To speed up the effort, he spent half a day edging our entire lawn while we painted the inside and out. When the target date arrived, our house looked great & was ready for visits by potential buyers. The race was now on to quickly complete the loan and real estate transaction processes within one month. Rock outstandingly performed his Realtor responsibilities, and beyond.

Rock shared with us a strategy he developed to move the home quickly. He offered excellent advice on how to set the price but allowed us the final decision. We priced our home fairly but fully valued. We were glad we did this because we had neighbors who sold their houses in a day, and wondered if they might have been priced too low. Since our house didn’t sell in the first week and the timing was so critical, we followed Rock’s expert advice, and started to receive offers. The first two contracts were withdrawn for various reasons. My wife was getting very nervous and we both knew this was a process that required skillful action, especially since we were competing with other homes for sale in the neighborhood. Our plans depended on this transaction happening. Yet Rock seemed calm throughout the process and helped us to stay focused on the task at hand, despite the tremendous stress we all felt. Rock had contingency plans for every conceivable situation, and he discussed each of these with us in great detail. We felt like we were well prepared to deal with whatever came our way. The third contract turned out to be the winner & was finalized not long after the others fell out.

Follow-up for settlement was fast paced, so much so that it was difficult to juggle everything. Rock kept us on schedule and ensured nothing was missed or left to chance. Rock is very articulate, and his communication skills are outstanding. He kept us informed at every turn. During the whole process though, Rock treated us not only as clients, but also as friends. Maybe it was the chemistry of the personalities at work. Regardless, we know he must have had other work and personal matters to attend, so this extra time he spent with us on our transaction was appreciated beyond words.

On a personal level, Rock is a person who takes pride, principles, and social responsibilities seriously. He’s a person always interested in learning and this is evident in the manner he listens and relates to others. We’ve now been in our new home for well over a year and really love it! If you are thinking about buying a home, you absolutely must call Rock Brown first! When my husband and I decided we wanted to buy a brand new home in a brand new neighborhood, there was a great deal we didn't know about the process. Until we met Rock, we weren't even aware of how much we didn't know… that we never would have known! Luckily my mother referred us to Rock before we totally screwed things up for ourselves. I developed a good rapport with him during our brief phone conversation, and we looked forward to meeting him in person for the initial consultation we had scheduled for the next day at Rock's office. He provides this service to potential Clients at no cost or obligation so they can meet & assess whether they're on the right track and whether he can help them. He greeted us in a friendly, non- threatening manner, and soon after he led us into the conference room, we knew we could relax because we were speaking to a man of high standards and integrity. He took the time to walk us through the entire process before we did anything, also explaining his very innovative way of doing business, which he calls the RockinRealty System. Soon after this, he helped us secure a terrific home in the exact kind of neighborhood we had been dreaming about.

Rock is a great negotiator and shared with us early on that you don't get what you deserve, you get what you ask for –and that asking critical questions was in his job description! Also, Rock told us that if we didn't have him with us when we signed the guest book upon our initial visit, the builder might not have allowed us to use an agent at all. Some builders are very strict and will refuse to pay a Realtor commission if the agent is not introduced right away. Rock informed us that the builder's salespeople don't tell you this because they are instructed not to, as the builder would prefer that you not have an agent. That way, the builder can pocket the money that would have gone toward your own personal representative –money you still end up paying! The builder would also not have to deal with the important issues that agents often confront them with. Most onsite salespeople are paid an hourly wage or a salary, not a commission, and they get paid by the builder regardless. We had no idea that a Realtor's commission was built into the sales price of our new construction –whether we chose to use one or not! If we had known this we would have chosen to have representation from the get-go! Why not! When Rock told us all this, we were amazed, and we were elated that we had taken the time to select a great agent before we began the process. What luck!

It's hard to believe that prior to this, we had assumed that a Realtor would not be necessary and that the onsite salesperson would take care of us. And to think we were just about on the verge of going to visit our first new home site sales office –little did we know! It's a good thing my mom told us to talk to Rock before we went. He shared all this information with us that most builders don't want people to know. For example, we didn't know that the onsite salesperson represents the builder, not the purchaser. We thought they were there to represent us, looking out for our best interests. We thought they would make suggestions that would help us make good decisions, & tell us all our options. Come to find out, they represent the builder, and the only things they disclose, beyond the initial enticements and legal requirements, are the things that help the builder to sell with the least amount of hassles and headaches. But according to Rock, sometimes the builder should endure a few hassles and headaches in order for you to get what you want and what you are paying your hard-earned money for!

Our builder wasn't too happy when Rock pointed out some desirable changes we didn't think we could make, but that we are now really happy to have. Our brick had been selected by the salesperson already, so she never mentioned we had a choice. Rock was quick to pick up on this however, and we got to choose a better color. We now also have an extended rear wall that adds over 200 square feet of finished living space to our home. Thanks to Rock listening and asking questions during our meetings with the salesperson, we were able to get some extra things we thought it was too late to get. We never would have known about these choices if Rock had not been there looking out for our best interest. When Rock noticed some things in our home that weren't done correctly, he pointed these things out to us, and made sure the builder was aware of the problems & would fix them on time.

Rock is a blessing in disguise as a highly competent Realtor & will continue to take care of all our future real estate needs. Whenever we know someone who needs the services of a top-notch Real Estate Consultant, Rock will take care of them, too! He keeps us aware of what's going on, makes useful suggestions, & even showed up at the design center to help us pick out our options & upgrades. He was very busy that day & we didn't expect to see him there at all! Rock was very up-front in suggesting what was necessary to have the builder do at the time versus what we should refrain from doing, or could do ourselves later for less money. He has a strong working knowledge of the various materials, fixtures, & appliances used in homes, & the esthetic sense of an interior designer to go along with it! Rock suggested to us that some things were worth spending the extra money on, & some things weren't -& he explained why in a way that was crystal clear. He was thinking of our current needs, but also thinking about our future, & how our choices might affect the resale value of our home.

Rock has helped us save thousands of dollars –and we can only guess how many sleepless nights. We can't thank him enough! Plus he has taken care of all of the paperwork and correspondence with the builder that would have chewed countless hours out of our busy lives, especially since we wouldn't have known what to do with it! When I got my new job in California, we thought about selling our home ourselves, but we knew that selling it for the amount of money we needed to make, and as quickly as we needed, would require a series of highly complex tasks that would need to be very carefully orchestrated. We knew we were not experts, & there was so much at stake. We could not afford to take a chance on achieving anything short of success. With a new baby on the way, we knew we’d need every dime we could get out of our property because homes in the San Francisco market are outrageously expensive, especially when they include an extra room for a nursery. We had also discovered, much to our dismay, that many For Sale By Owner properties (FSBOs) often never make it to settlement. Because our time frame was so urgent, we decided to enlist the help of a full time professional Realtor. Not knowing where to begin, we asked a good friend for advice - someone we trust, who has bought & sold many properties over the years. Our friend was quick to tell us about Rock Brown.
